From 2011 - 2016, I led an informal swarm of over 150 high-dollar donors dedicated to climate action and to the candidacy of President Obama. I helped assemble an informal group of lead donors who felt it was imperative to support the President in taking bolder action to address the climate threat. My associates Kathy Washienko, KC Golden and Marc Weiss were critical to this initiative. Together, the network of donors aligned with movement groups to press for cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline - a "carbon bomb" designed to transport tar sands oil from Canada to Texas. That pipeline was canceled in 2021. We also pressed the President to end subsidies for coal-fired power plants. Coal plants have been rapidly closing. This informal group continues to weigh in periodically with elected officials, urging an end to fossil fuels and pressing to rapidly scale renewable energy.
